On the Big Screen!

On the Big Screen!

Art Teacher Mrs Saganic was accompanied by two students, Ava and Lily, to the presentation of work from the 'I Can't Draw' campaign led by Arts University Bournemouth (AUB). In collaboration with other partners, AUB worked with secondary schools to tap into creativity and encourage students to find different methods of expressing themselves through art, regardless of drawing ability. It connected young people with their inbuilt ability to communicate through the making of marks. Students from Year 9 explored drawing as a performance, using their own physicality as a tool to draw with. Some of their creative pieces arising from this activity are shown below.

Students also explored the making of art through collages as part of the project.

Back in July 2021, we were one of only three Dorset schools whose artworks were exhibited as part of Bournemouth's Emerging Arts Fringe Festival (BEAF) when the 'I Can't Draw' project was featured as part of BEAF's '2B Human' exhibition. The festival included live music, performance and visual arts, workshops and talks, with over 40 artists showcasing their artworks.

[Along with other displays of their work, artworks from Swanage School students are featured in this exhibition display at the Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe Festival.]

The exhibition of work on the big screen outside The Avenue Shopping Centre in Bournemouth in May 2022 was the culmination of the project and part of a wider event where members of the public were invited to create artworks, collages and textiles supported by students from AUB's Event Management and Textiles courses. You can read more about the event on AUB's website. Work from participating students can also be seen on AUB's website.
