We are thrilled to announce that Inspiring Ink, our student-led magazine, has been shortlisted for the 2024 Shine School Media Awards. The Shine Awards is a free national competition rewarding UK secondary schools who produce an outstanding newspaper, magazine or multimedia project. They reward writing, editing, design and fund-raising.
Each year, the culmination of the Awards is a day-long ceremony held in central London. Students Charlotte Finney (Year 11) and Isabel Mellor (Year 10) will be accompanied by Creative Media and English Teacher Miss Scott to the Awards Gala, being held at Stationers' Hall, on 1st July. As well as award presentations, during the day there will be workshops and notable guest speakers. Last year's speakers included Katie Vanneck-Smith, CEO of Hearst UK, and Sajeeda Merali, CEO of the Professional Publishers Association.
Under the guidance of Miss Woodward and with creative support from Miss Scott, students have to date published two issues of Inspiring Ink, each a collection of articles, reviews and writing. Copies are available to pick up from the School or, whilst stocks last, from Swanage Co-op.
Inspiring Ink is entered into the following categories of the Shine Awards:
- Best illustration and artwork
- Best print and design
- Writer of the year: Fiction
- Writer of the year: Non-Fiction
- Editor of the year
- Most inspirational teacher
- The Terry Mansfield CBE award for Tomorrow's Talent
Congratulations to the whole 'Inspiring Ink' student magazine team, Miss Woodward and Miss Scott (pictured below)!
