Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

All students in Year 9 take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme - Bronze Level.

The Award is an amazing opportunity and can enrich young people's lives. It can help to develop character and skills, and boosts confidence by enabling young people to participate in community activity and to challenge themselves. It can be a stepping stone to a productive and prosperous future by giving an edge over other applicants when applying for college, university or employment - participating in the Award is a great way to demonstrate and evidence skills such as communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork.

The DofE Bronze Award is split into four sections:

  • Volunteering - helping people, the community, the environment or animals -  for at least an hour a week, over a 3 month period
  • Physical - participating in a chosen physical activity, such as sport, dance or fitness, over a 3 month period
  • Skills - learning any new skill over a 3 month period, for example cooking, playing an instrument, gardening or sport
  • Expedition - a 2 day / 1 night expedition involving hiking and camping
