Parent Governor Vacancy

We have a vacancy for a parent governor to serve on the governing body of the school and all parents are invited to put their name forward if they would like to serve in this role.

The governing body oversees the management of the school, which is managed on a day-to-day basis by the headteacher and other staff. Among other things, the governing body are responsible for strategic planning, monitoring and evaluating progress, ensuring financial stability and acting as a source of support and challenge to the headteacher (a “critical friend”). Being a governor makes a positive contribution to the education of children in the school and can be personally rewarding. More information on the role can be found in this information booklet and on the “School Governance” page of the school’s website.

To apply, please complete the application form (click here) and provide a brief personal statement (one or two paragraphs, no more than 250 words) giving a little biographical information, your reason for wanting to be a parent governor and what you can offer in terms of skills and/or experience. The governing body would particularly welcome candidates with accountancy/financial, HR or legal experience/skills.

Please check your eligibility to be a governor (click here). You can either:

  • leave your application at the school’s Reception marked for the attention of Sue Fletcher, Clerk to Governors, or
  • email your application to: suefletcher@theswanageschool.co.uk

You may nominate another parent but should first seek their permission and they must agree to and sign the accompanying statement.

If you apply and the number of nominations is equal or less than the number of vacancies, you would automatically be elected. If there are more nominees than vacancies, an election will be held and a copy of your personal statement (but not your contact details) will be circulated to all parents who will then be invited to vote.

All governor appointments are subject to checks on eligibility and a satisfactory DBS check.

If you have any questions about the role or the commitment involved, please contact Sue Fletcher, Clerk to Governors, on suefletcher@theswanageschool.co.uk

The closing date for nominations is 5pm on Monday 8th January 2018
